Evan, thank you for all the work you put in on this. It must be nightmare-inducing and I hope you take care of yourself. πŸ’™

Just FYI using the words child pornography is outdated. The term now is child abuse material. Pornography is considered consensual. Children can’t consent.

Hannah's avatar

Sorry to be pedantic, but it's child sexual abuse material. CSAM.

I am sick and tired of people insisting on neologisms as tribal markers of who is up to date with the latest correctness.

Language evolves, with you or without you.

The prior usages will persist, whether you like them or not, and the neologisms will not last long before being replaced.

The coinage of an acronym is an admission of defeat: it means even those who want to use the latest phrase find it cumbersome to use all the time. In this case, contextual clues would surely tip off an uninitiated reader to the meaning, but in general an acronym for a neologism is a barrier to understanding, since someone outside the charmed circle might not know what phrase it stands for or not think of it right away.

I meant no harm. The person was trying to inform the author of the current, more commonly understood phrase. Their correction was slightly off.

Personally, I am not invested in either phrase.

What a BS legal fiction. If they can morally (and legally) consent to someone shitting in their mouth, they can damn well morally consent to them taking a picture of themselves in the shower and sending it to their boyfriend.

Children may not consent to pornography but children and minor aren't the same thing. If you are legally old enough to fuck, you are morally able to consent to taking a selfie.

I, myownself, believe the word "Christian" in the title should in quotes, as these people are by no means Christians.

Sister Artemis's avatar

I like "Christianists" be ause it places the adjacent to the religious tenets but not actually within them.

Whatever term one chooses, I appreciate it when folks somehow draw the line. We've got a fair number of Christians on both this board and in my town who live the teachings, rather than twist them to excuse bad and abusive behavior. I hate clumping these very different folks together.

Ta, Evan. I hope you're taking breaks for self-care, including giving Ruby her skritches. We love and appreciate you and this work.

Horrifying, and yet so unsurprising. I feel sad. Thanks for always laying down what I'm thinking and no one else is talking about - makes one feel less alone and crazy.

Hannah's avatar

You're not alone. Crazy is subjective.

Look at it this way.... we are practically neighbors and we both read this newsletter.

Kay-El's avatar

I’m grateful I wasn’t raised with religion nor were my children. I can only imagine what these folks have gone through having read so many stories. Thank you for your work on this.

Hollysdower's avatar

Evan, it means a LOT that a man is doing this. Women have been screaming about this for years, and nobody listened to us.

Elaine Farrant's avatar

I've written this before, but it's worth repeating: Freedom From Religion publishes a monthly newsletter. The back 2 pages feature Black Collar Crime. Dozens of crimes of every nature including child abuse of every sort from Catholics, Baptists and every religious sect all over the world.

Here's something I came across in the news today:

https://xalionsden.com/

My Republican white Christian Nationalist state rep is Assembly of God. Baptists might be a large denomination but AofG surpasses them in influence in my rural area.

Do you have to use cleanser on your brain after posting one of these tracking columns? Take care of yourself. Thank you. ❀️✌🏻

Hannah's avatar

I restacked this, but never know quite what to say. It just all makes me feel sick.

Annalee Tudor's avatar

I appreciate your work in tracking these stories.

Thank you. If anyone can locate the Ken Burnside thread on Bluesky, referenced by Evan, could you post a link to it here? I scrolled through his profile but couldn’t find it. I’m trying to get my head round the particular complex that makes these terrible people do these truly terrible things.

Evan Hurst's avatar

Oh did I forget to link? It’s in the comments to the Josh post.

Mapledurham's avatar

I’m so stupid today - of course, thanks for clarifying something that was perfectly clear in the first place πŸ™ƒ

Add this head count to the scandalous Catholic priests and lecherous coaches and criminal doctors to double or triple your number.

Once the compilation page is done, we should make sure all the churches in our areas receive the list with peiodic updates. Also, every school principal, administrator, library, community boards etc.

Yawn. We know statistically child sexual abuse is more prevelant in minority communities but unshockingly the DNC doesn't go after their base just like in the UK with Paki rape gangs. Hell the Reverend MLK was known for his predilection for white minor prostitutes but he's a hero to the left and we got a holiday for him.

It's called lawfare. Lefty shims and their child molesting jungle monkeys with dyke supporters hate white men hence that's where they direct prosecutorial resources. It doesn't matter if 100% of convictions are Southern Baptists if Kamella refuses to charge anyone else. Also notice how nearly all these are pleas, not convictions, hence we know neatly half are BS. Also quit pretending technicalities are rape. If the pastor could legally fuck them, it's a bit much clutching your pearls because she sexted him as part of dating too.
