I spent the mid-aughts as an executive assistant to a Protestant bishop. I'm not going to say what denomination, but it's one of the more liberal ones, in fact, the other more conservative varieties of that particular denomination consider them heretics. 😂
About 7 years after leaving that position, I renounced religion altogether and am now as passionate and atheist as I ever was a Christian, probably more, although my Jewish friends laugh and say that with my mouth, there's no way I'm not Jewish 😂
I'm glad to report that the one instance of sexual abuse that was brought to the Bishop's attention during my tenure there was dealt with appropriately, swiftly, and with the welfare of the victim in prime place. It happened to be a pastor I had known years before, and I was surprised and disappointed. Yet I still stayed in the church for another decade or so. Go figure.

Excellent post, as always! One correction, though: It wasn’t the rector of St. John’s Lafayette who admonished Dump & Vance. It was Mariann Edgar Budde, who at the time was the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, and she did it at the National Cathedral. So not a parish priest, but the big kahuna of the denomination in America.

I also grew up in the Bible Belt (had a lot of friends who went to Liberty, even nursed Jerry Falwell's bestie once) and I gotta say, in my tried & true experience, a nondenominational megachurch of bullshit is a Southern Baptist church that's shucked all nonessential Baptist ties and beliefs in the name of getting asses in the seats and money in the plates. The only thing they hang onto is conservatism- that's baked in. They won't call themselves "Bible-believing" as that scares the customers away but they sure do walk the Baptist walk. (Also, as a Jew I gotta laugh at that little conceit that all churches aren't "Bible-believing"- although if you find one that's Pratchett-believing, let me know, and I'll drop in. De Chelonian Mobile.)
Religous organizations are where the intuitional cover is robust and easy access to victims are located. Pedophiles and abusers figured this out centuries ago. Its not rocket science.

I don’t have any hard evidence (no pun intended) that Epstein also trafficked boys, just a hunch that whatever a client wanted, he would find.
I agree that Mike was probably not of the rank to be an Epstein client: more likely he is protecting Trump, or some large donors, or both.
