As much as I hate Dipshit (my name for "president" trump), I hate her, and other fake Christians like Maga Mike, even more. They are why Gandhi said, "I like your Christ, but I don't like your Christians," or something similar.
I'm not sure anymore that they are "fake Christians". The history of the Christian church is pretty consistently full of this kind of behavior. Seems to me like they are authentically Christian and acting in accordance with thousands of years of precedent. I make one caveat for the Black Christian Church, because of the powerful role it has played in lifting up black leaders and carrying members through hardship created by White Christians.

Just for giggles, I want to point out that the first time I ever heard of the short-fingered vulgarian, was back in the 1970s, when I skimmed an article about him in the NYT. The reporter (now gone to her reward) gushed over this shiny new entrepreneur, and his hair, teeth and limo, and said, "he looks ever so much like Robert Redford." You may imagine my surprise when I saw him on television being interviewed by Tom Brokaw on the Today show, a few years later to find absolutely zero resemblance.
I love Jesus. I really do. But I had to unlearn most of what I was taught in my Southern Baptist upbringing in Bible-belt Memphis TN. I nearly drowned in the hypocrisy. I had the perfect family: 4 babies, godly husband I met at church (screwed around our entire 17 year marriage unbeknownst to naive me), big house, baby submissive voice, etc... until I didn't. Somehow, I became the problem in the whole situation when I called out the wrongness of it all. They will do anything to defend this sick form of spirituality. After many years of distance from the evangelical cult, I am thriving and quite content and happy with the Jesus I know now. But conservative evangelicalism nearly killed me. This piece is a genuine reflection of how they think and act...it is a far cry from the Jesus I understand now. I howled as I read this because, retrospectively, it is so ridiculous. The voices, the looks, the names, the attitudes, the judgements, rituals, and on and on and on. I bought it all. So much is so mean. I feel sick at myself and how judgy and legalistic I was. As time goes on and the meanness of Trump continues to be perpetuated, I pray that more folks will gain clarity that they are being duped.
It takes an incredible amount of courage to even start questioning Evangelicalism in the safety of your own mind. You actively chose to know better and then you changed your life so you could do better. Be kind to your past self. She may have been mean, but she was also mighty enough to move mountains.
This is one of the kindest things anyone has ever said to me. Thank you more than I can express. I am still being rebuked and shunned by my own children and family for my clarity. It still hurts every day though I have no regrets. I just have to remind myself of the real message of Jesus and move forward with that love and surity.
I am so sorry your family hasn’t joined you on this journey yet. You have planted a mustard seed on your way out. May that seed take root, sprout, and bring forth flowers in their hearts.
It read like someone on her campaign wrote it. I read it and the comments on NYT were locked, so I couldn’t go and complain about how biased it was. So I went to Substack and searched her name and your take came up. The Times should be ashamed for posting that fluff , propaganda piece.
Let’s not forget that Margaret Atwood was teaching at the University of Alabama when she conceived of The Handmaid’s Tale, and nobody has yet disabused me of the notion that it’s at least as much a critique of sorority life there as it is a vision of a science fiction dystopia.
Also, years ago she said it was based on "The people of praise" Amy Coney Barrett's cult which hides under the catholic umbrella, and uses the "Handmaid" term, and one other cult, can't remember which one. Those references have pretty much disappeared from Google search since, and some have downright lied about it.

People like Britt have accepted a white supremacist interpretation of both the Constitution & the Bible have asterisks that mean white people get all the purported benefits and blessings, but none of the burdens, obligations, expectations, or consequences.

There's nothing so humiliating to ACTUAL NYT readers than watching the paper bend over backwards, sideways and getting down on their bootlicker knees trying to appeal to the right by sane washing All Headlines and Ledes that might be viewed as practicing ethical journalistic standards. These BS both way takes from the NYT is why it's critical for the Washington Post to get proper leadership and ownership so they can keep the NYT honest. The NYT sanewash only serves as nauseating it's readers and is the rung on the ladder that the Post was playing at the moment Bill Lewis arrived with the torches.
