Federer. A name I haven't seen come up in years. May I tell you what I know about him? Many years ago, Chris Rodda and I were both on AOL message boards. She asked me if I knew about a claim Federer made about a prayer "written by Thomas Jefferson." Being Episcopalian, I immediately recognized the prayer from the Book of Common Prayer for the Episcopal Church - as she was sure I would.

Federer not only claimed that Jefferson wrote this "Prayer for the Nation," but referenced a book on TJ as is his source. Unfortunately, I no longer remember the title - something like The Life and Times of Thomas Jefferson, written about 100 years ago. But, I do remember going to the Central Library and finding the book, looking at the referenced page and finding not a reference to the prayer (which was written after TJ's death), but the middle of an Inaugural Speech where he spoke of the importance of teaching animal husbandry to Indians, since we had taken so much of their hunting grounds.

He was a liar then, he is a liar now. And no one who associates with Wallnau should be trusted in anything. If he told me my name was "Ellie," I'd have to check my birth certificate. Apparently there is some truth in that leopard/spots thing.

He told attendees he suspected they were “nobodies on earth who are somebodies in the spirit.” That’ll make ‘em feel special."

He found their greatest fear and exploited it.

Do they realise that the single women who reach their 50s and regret not having children are the type of people who go out and adopt these children the GOP are forcing all the other women to give birth to and put up for adoption?

Also, faith healing is complete and utter BS. It kills. I was 15 and a member of an evangelical church in the UK (one of the ones associated with the Hillsong cult). A few weeks after a faith healer visited and I dutifully stood up to ask to have my T1 diabetes healed (which, of course, failed to happen), I was pulled aside by the youth pastor and told that the reason God hadn't healed my non-functioning pancreas was that I did not have enough faith in him to do so. How does a naive 1t year old prove that they have faith in God to heal their T1 Diabetes? They stop taking their insulin.

Luckily, I came to my senses after 3 days. This sort of thing has resulted in the death of other children, and adults too. The churches should be held criminally responsible for these deaths.

White males are terrified of women

Sadly, I don't think it's limited to white males.

If everything is pre-ordained then be peaceful. It's pre-ordained.

How did all these guys walk away from LOTR wanting to be Sauron? Did they read an abridged edition?

Yes, yes they did, literally. There's a reason Thiel calls his creepy-ass global surveillance company 'Palantir'...

Right? I just want to jump up and down and make them read it again.

If I, at 50, realized I had made a terrible mistake by not popping out babies in my early years, I dunno... maybe I would have adopted? Fortunately, I'm self-aware enough to know I'd be a terrible parent, and also, somehow missed that heart-rending stage of regret when I zoomed past it many years ago.

Same. Though I did adopt cats. Lots of cats.

Jadey has always been a creep; now we know definitively who and what he's creeping for. We must outvote them in such overwhelming numbers that all their efforts to ratfuck, steal, cheat, and lie are laughably useless. GOTV and VOTE. Check your registration at least weekly.

I’m only a third of the way into this and it’s already clear that ProPublica needs to be telling the IRS the story of Lance Wallnau And The Vanishing Tax Exempt Status

“Lie back and think of America” is the Christian nationalist advice to women. Their attitude towards women is doubly offensive in that it implies that one’s children exist to take care of you in middle age (I was unmarried and doing just fine at that point).

The TheoBros are like the other desperate right-wing losers: they see people turning away from their fucked up ideas so they, like cornered rats, get violent towards people, logic, morality, and democracy.

Unfortunately for the rest of the world, many of them have money and aren’t afraid to spend it for the cause.

This is where I bring up confiscatory and punitive taxes on obscene wealth... it's good for the federal budget and it's good for democracy!

Yeah. The theocrats have pretty much taken over the state government here in Texas. There’s a couple of them that are petro-billionaires and own our governor. There’s no campaign contribution limits on most state elected offices. They give the governor a couple of million dollars. He, in turn, gives a few hundred thousand to folks he wants in the Legislature that will do his (and the billionaires) biding. It’s pretty screwed up.

Amazing how fast a state can get ruined.Florida elected Ron Desantis in 2019 by a slim margin…. He went in to take apart every system and placed his cronies in so that the laws passed help him and his cronies… Thisi is why we MUST vote for Harris/Walz to save us from these destructive regimes of fake Christianity!!

I’ve lived in Texas since 1980, so nearly 45 years. When I first got here, it was quirky, but normal-ish. Of course, I’m a white man, so my experience obviously would be different if I didn’t belong to that demographic. I’ve had conversations with my wife as to when things went off the tracks here. As far as I can figure it, it was when Dan Patrick got elected lieutenant governor (probably the most powerful political position in the state, as it sets the legislative agenda). He pretty much destroyed all political norms in the state senate. Then House Speaker Joe Straus left politics. It was game over.

Evan, such a great article! Thank you! But, you’ve missed the elephant in the room - Opus Dei. I couldn’t figure out why Vance converted to Catholicism but once I understood the “deep state” secret Catholic organization with Leonard Leo, etc, the whole fucking scheme fell into view. Evangelical Christians are mosquitoes compared to Opus Dei. The Catholics have 2,000 years of experience. lol . Wikipedia has a good overview on Opus Dei but it does not get into Leo, Vance, etc. Thiel is not Catholic but he is an evangelical Jesus freak. If you can uncover what Opus Dei is doing - besides stacking the Supreme Court, please, please publish what you learn.

Catholicism is where the money and the power is, JD converted ,same as Bill Barr's dad did.

Expand full comment

I did not know Bill Barr’s father was in Opus Dei. Do you know the year he joined. Bill Barr has denied being a member but he is in another Catholic organization, can’t recall name, which includes Leonard Leo, etc. Why in the heck did Donald Barr hire Jeffrey Epstein to teach school. Was a Epstein a part of this sick mess? It is all so enmeshed - the whole Catholic spider webb. 6 Catholics on the court. We’ve lost Roe and now they’re coming for contraception and same sex marriage protection. Pat Ciplione is Opus Dei. WTF! Why don’t we know about this?

Expand full comment

Because no one is pursuing the Opus Dei spider web into overthrowing our democracy! Opus Dei lives in wealth - hardly the teachings of Jesus Christ. They use manipulation of wealth and influence to control governments. They were born in Spain and flourished under Franco (fascism) but also flourished in Italy during WWII ( Benito Mussolini) again fascist. The organization seems to prefer fascist governments.

They demand loyalty first - so any oath by a Supreme Court justice or anyone else who belongs to Opus Dei can not be trusted because one Can Not have 2 Masters. Opus Dei by courting money is inserting itself between the members and the Almighty.
