Thank you Evan! We should all broadcast the LULAC abuela raid loudly and nationally because it outrages and galvanizes.

Everyone here is checking their registration and spreading the word. Many have found they are dropped from the rolls, so the news gathers momentum. Telling young people “they don’t want you to vote”really pisses them off. Those that never voted before are gonna vote just because of that.
Ima OBGyn, and the docs/NPs/RNs/MAs and female patients I know are really looking forward to Roevember.👊🏼
It’s a thing y’all, and it’s not just the cities. You wouldn’t believe how deeply angry OBGyns and Texas women in general are.🐬🐋💦🌊
I am one of those really pissed-off Texas women -- I thank you and Evan for talking about what's going on here. If Crimin' Ken and the other right-wing nutjobs in the state hadn't said "fuck using a thumb on the scales, we're just gonna pile up a bunch of big rocks this year!" the state would have a real start on prying off their chokehold on the TX government. It would be nice if the federal government would step in, at least on all the million voters removed from the rolls and the abuse of authority in going after LULAC and the abuelas.
One problem is that the elections that really matter for the state -- for gov (Abbott), lite gov (Dan Patrick), and AG (Paxton) -- are still held every four years, but two years off the Presidential election cycle. Turnout for the midterms is lower to begin with, and it's easier for them to cheat with less scrutiny. Although if we lose this round, they may be dismayed at all the scrutiny they get in 2026.
One thing: Paxton is in trouble again. The two lawyers working on his prosecution for securities fraud (filed in 2012, I believe) ended up dropping the case last March, probably out of frustration at the changes of venue and other dirty tricks Paxton played to get out of a trial. Now he's in even bigger trouble -- for the criming that got him impeached and almost removed from office. And I would bet that most of the fallout from firing several asst AGs who came forward with allegations about Paxton's criming has not yet hit him. These are a bunch of smart, conservative lawyers who got screwed over big time for telling the truth about Paxton. Here's hoping that when that shoe drops, it turns into an anvil.
But frankly, I'd settle for Allred kicking Ted Cruz all the way to Cancun.
Responsible law-abiding taxpayer Mom and Grandma checking in! I'm even self-employed and my job creates jobs for other people, so hey - job creator! Sorry, Babylon Bee: a lot of us recognize how harmful GOP policies are to families, law, and the economy. You aren't the family or even fetus friendly party.
Even the nickname “Comrade Kamala” reveals how tired and old Trump is …. The Soviet Union ended almost 35 years ago …. no one born since the end of the severe union even understands how deadly that insult was back in the 1950s. he’s using 70-year old 1950s rhetoric in the 2020s.
"He’s a white conservative Texan, that’s all the proof you need."
That's the only sentence in this post that I disagree with. There are no more true conservatives in the Republican Party today, and we should stop assuming that there are. Abbott and Paxton are reactionary Christian nationalists who subsist on race. Conservatism was a respectable creed in the days of Dwight Eisenhower, but those days are long gone.
I feel the same way. I find it impossible to call this party as Republican. I usually use "The Party Formerly Known as Republican" or "the Christofascist Party" or the "Trumpublican Party".
I can point to this column when anyone asks me about Texas fuckery, because I normally just dissolve into a profane gibbering mess screaming about conservative white men. Can't take me anywhere.
Please stop calling the conservative right “Christians.” They are most certainly not true followers of Christ and they give those of us who ARE actual Christians who espouse joy, love and acceptance a very bad name. Harris/Walz for the win!
Some guys wrote stories in Greek, based on the parables of a guy who more than likely spoke Aramaic, after playing a 40 to 100 year game of telephone.
These stories were later translated into Latin, and finally into English. I'm sure the book they are now compiled into is a perfect representation of what may have been said 2000 years ago.
You are correct. The Jerusalem Bible is a modern translation from the original languages and is interesting to compare to more commonly used translations. Best example is “thou shalt not suffer a witch to live” as it appears in the King James Version is actually “poisoner” in the original.
you ever tempted to tell someone something and see how its played back to you after it has circled the social scene? may an hour, a week, month? imagine 2,000 years!
Team Live Oak 1984. That’s about all I can say without devolving into a rage beast.
Colin Allred is going to be our next senator. People who normally aren’t interested in politics are making plans to vote Day One. The same state that threw up Paxton also proudly gave birth to Rep. Jasmine Crockett. There is hope.
I'm old enough to remember when Paxton was impeached, then a nice fat donation to the politician leading the charge stopped the proceedings. The politics of that state reek!
Their MAGA triplets actions are getting more and more and more wacky. In the meantime we are registering people to vote, phone banking, canvassing, talking to our neighbors. No one wants what these guys are putting in place. No one wants their public schools shut down, no one wants Cruz in their medical exam room. We are done.
« Ballot harvesting « : it’s as if Republicans were deliberately trying to tie their failed policies to inflammatory rhetoric like « organ harvesting « .
I have a summer home in the far northeastern corner of Wisconsin. Until recently, Trump signs have been everywhere you look, as well as Gadsden and black “No Quarter” flags. The last time I was there was 2 weeks ago and it was pleasantly surprising to see how much of that crap was gone. I’ll be driving up again this Sunday. It’ll be interesting to see if the trend continues.
There’s one in particular that’s especially galling. It’s a full sized billboard at a trucking company in Antigo, WI called Karl’s Transport. The owner of that place must be a real piece of shit.

"It's an anti-Commie insult. It was devastating. You're devastated right now."
But his mentor was Joe McCarthy's partner.

Those are all good paths away from our current mislabeling. Let's hope that we can do our best to spread the word on telling it like it is.
All the trump signs have disappeared from my neck of the woods!!!
I can point to this column when anyone asks me about Texas fuckery, because I normally just dissolve into a profane gibbering mess screaming about conservative white men. Can't take me anywhere.
I like you, you tell it like it is.
I'd like to be optimistic about TX. You have given me some hope.

Lol!!!!
What alternate term is good?
Omit the word Christian and just call them the conservative right.
But they are too extreme to call themselves conservative 😂

I think it was here that the question was asked “do you know why we can fly a helicopter on Mars but we can’t keep the lights on in Texas?
Because scientists are in charge of Mars and Republicans are in charge of Texas.”
as a geologist, i approve this message. paid for with the kindness of my heart.

Why do Republicans always go for men with lots of hair ? (That’s less true of Democrats, though also true.)
or stephen miller with the spray on hair?
Rick Scott being the exception.
Re. the raids: What is Spanish for "Kristallnacht"?
Noche de Cristal - which sounds more like a champagne party.

Go to www.vote.gov to check your voter registration status.
And May the Force (and Harris/Walz) be with you!
Thanks
