I’m not particularly religious. I certainly don’t believe in a benevolent god. However even I have been exposed to the Sermon on the Mount, Good Samaritan, those without sin cast the 1st stone. No MAGA, not the Huckabees or any “minister” seems to be acquainted with basic New Testament.
To be fair, trump himself has never claimed to be a Christian, but most who are his fans do claim to be Christians. Either they have no idea what Jesus said, and did, because he backed up his words with actions, or chose to ignore them.
“Though I was confirmed at a Presbyterian church as a child, I now consider myself to be a nondenominational Christian,” _Short Fingers in an interview with Religion News Service in 2020
“I believe in God. I am Christian. I think The Bible is certainly, it is THE book,’ Trump told CBN’s David Brody in 2011.
My default response to hypocritical MAGA "Christians" - they're not - is to tell them to go back and re-read the Sermon on the Mount and then we'll talk.
And thing is? she could have LITERALLY given the EXACT same sermon at Biden's inauguration and no one would have blink...chalk this one up as "hit dog gonna hollar" and methinks the lady doth protest too much"
"People need to be nice to each other"
"WHY ARE YOU CALLING ME A NAZI"
in a way it was a trap and they fell right into it per their reaction
If I remember correctly, another aspect of the Good Samaritan parable was that Samaritans were looked down on as "other" or "lesser," and yet the Samaritan is the one who stopped and helped. It's also meant as a reminder not to stereotype or judge or fear etc. people who are different from you or from somewhere other than where you come from. Which makes that willful misinterpretation of that parable all the more infuriating, given what's going on in our country right now.
Another good article. I appreciate you keeping us informed and not holding back your contempt for the moral low ground.
Kind of like Scalice waking up in the hospital, after being shot at that collegial ball game, being intensively saved and tended to by people of different colors and lifestyles?
Much of this twisting of the Samaritan Parable can be traced back to James Buchanan's "Samaritan's Dilemma" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samaritan%27s_dilemma , a reading that I was turned on to by Nancy Maclean's book, "Democracy in Chains".
The gist being:
"The battered man by the side of the road that Buchanan conjures with his title functions in the game not as the victim of malign forces beyond his control, but rather as a predator, out to exploit the gullible Samaritan’s weakness for assuaging the pain of others. As long as the parasite—the predator—can count on that weakness in his prey, he can “win” the game; that is, he can shirk work and yet strategically manipulate his victim into repeatedly extending aid." - via Boston Review: https://www.bostonreview.net/articles/democracy-chains
Like Randian Objectivism and the various other supply-side virtues of zero sum capitalism, it's a means to justify one's inherent selfishness and greed.
Bishop Budde brought the truth to Trump in a calm, quiet, tone with her voice sometimes shaking. The truth that Jesus asked us to show compassion and love to the vulnerable and suffering people in our country.
What a Heroine for our present moment!
Thank-you Bishop Budde for speaking truth to power and showing all of us how to do so.
He is characterized by pride, envy, anger, lust, avarice, gluttony, and sloth; he worships golden images, uses the name of God vainly, disrespected both his parents, golfs every Sunday, was accomplice to brutal killings and boasts he could kill personally in plain sight and not lose any of his followers, has made a career of stealing from everyone who works with him, has committed adultery on every one of his wives, bears false witness every time he opens his mouth, moved on his neighbor's wife "like a bitch" and covets everything else that belongs to his neighbor; he opposes feeding the hungry, letting the thirsty have water, treating the sick, or especially welcoming the stranger, and he abused children, so that it would be better if a millstone were tied round his neck and he were cast into the sea.
My favorite one to throw out is about the rich guy being perfect... "if you want to be perfect, go and give all you have to the poor and come, follow me."
Obviously, Jesus was just talking to THAT guy specifically. It wasn't a general command to all his followers... makes me ill.
Performative christianity has been around for centuries, killing, looting, and plundering at the cost of good people just trying to live their lives. The Crusades were motivated by a desire to gain control of the Holy Land, which included Jerusalem, and to spread Christianity and that didn't turn out so well for anybody.
These asshats want the moral patina of Christianity without actually believing. I soured on religion 6 decades ago because they are hypocrites who spout the talk but avoid the walk. Religion has the world screwed up and is responsible for more deaths and misery than everything else combined. If you’re a decent moral person, you don’t need organized religion to go to whatever your “heaven” means.
Hateful people spewing hate, and calling themselves followers of Jesus, are the scourge of this planet. They are the most UN- Christ-like people on earth. The disgusting vitriol towards a meek, mild, request to be merciful, by a woman preacher, unleashed such a vile torrent of abuse against her, that I am sickened there is not more outrage against the perpetrators of such hatred. How do these people live normal, sane, lives, when they are so twisted as to believe empathy and compassion are sins, and heartlessness and cruelty are virtues?
This reminds me of the Gandhi quote: I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.

I stand corrected.
however he ALLOWED them to believe he was a Christian...these people are idiots
He did call himself a nondenom Christian at some point, fwiw (i.e. less than zero).
My default response to hypocritical MAGA "Christians" - they're not - is to tell them to go back and re-read the Sermon on the Mount and then we'll talk.

One of the lessons is thinking about how the victim felt when he woke up in that inn, and was told that a Samaritan saved his life.
I can see from the article quoting "conservatives" why so many supported the Schlafly guy, rewriting the Bible.
Kind of like Scalice waking up in the hospital, after being shot at that collegial ball game, being intensively saved and tended to by people of different colors and lifestyles?
Jews and Samaritans were bitter enemies at the time. Translate it as "Palestinian" and you get close to the sentiment.

Hey Daily Wire guy, please clarify - is she a fake priestess or a fake lady or both?
They literally worship Antichrist.
This is it, this is the truth. Think of it, if Antichrist was walking the earth, this is the exact shit that would be going on. Duck/quack/duck.
Except that the Antichrist wasn't prophesied to be so damned Dumb
Wasn’t prophesied to be a genius either. 🤷♂️

It such a mild run-of-the-mill sermon! The only difference is that Budde was speaking to the incoming administration and not a youth group.
To MAGA, the REAL heroes of the Good Samaritan parable were the robbers.
They would vote for the robbers. twice.

Hey, we all got some nice spices out of it.
Thank you Bishop Budde at 7:58 “…fellow children of god…” “we don’t have to go to the highest extremes of contempt”
❤️❤️👍🏽👍🏽

They can't even spout the talk anymore.
Rivers of blood through time, RIVERS, because of religion

C'mon! The woman doesn't even have a private jet! How much of a minister can she be? /s
