Washington Post Op-Ed Begs Biden To Heal America, Pardon Felon-Elect Trump
Happy Thanksgiving and fuck off, Washington Post.
Yesterday, Special Counsel Jack Smith motioned to end his two federal cases against Donald Trump once and for all — for DC District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan to dismiss the case against Trump for plotting a coup to overturn the lawful results of the 2020 election and overthrow the government in the process, and to end the appeals that might have reopened the case against Trump for stealing state secrets from the United States government and obstructing efforts to get them back.
Smith didn’t argue that anything had changed about the facts of the case, just the facts of the defendant, based on the Justice Department’s longstanding opinion that sitting presidents cannot be indicted. (Apparently even if they weren’t president when the many indictments came down.)
Chutkan dismissed the election-stealing case without prejudice, which means that in some theoretical happy funtimes world, the case could be reopened again, when Trump is not president.
Ha ha! Maybe our hallowed institutions will one day save us! Ha ha!
Except that our institutions did not stand up to Trump. Our institutions failed. Because of, among other things, Attorney General Merrick Garland being an absolute coward and keeping his thumbs fully ensconced up his ass until it was far too late, Trump will not be held accountable for the untold number of crimes he’s committed against the Republic. Moreover, his stolen illegitimate partisan hack Supreme Court has pretty much ensured that he will not be held for all the crimes he commits in his second term, or crimes he might be committing right now.
However, as Joyce White Vance points out, Trump has not been exonerated, from anything. We still have a lot to fight for, and just as Rachel Maddow said about November 5, history didn’t end that day, and so it didn’t end November 25 when Trump’s cases were dismissed.
Speaking of institutions and other things we still have to fight for, there’s the free press. We’re watching right now as the corporate media has a contest over who can obey the tyrant the loudest and most appreciatively. For example, yesterday, the Washington Post, which beclowned and humiliated itself when it chose not to endorse in the 2024 presidential race, in fear of Trump getting punishing or disfavoring its mega-billionaire owner Jeff Bezos, published an op-ed begging/demanding current President Joe Biden to pardon Trump.
I guess it’s important to the bootlickers that Trump be reassured over and over again that he’s above the law and he got away with it.
Granted, it wasn’t an editorial, but an opinion piece, written by two extremely vapid MAGA idiots. Still, WaPo chose to publish the dogshit. The two moron writers — Marc Theissen and Danielle Pletka — argue that Biden pardoning Trump would “heal” the country.
As if the majority of American citizenry who did not vote for Trump, who loathe the very air he breathes, will be “healed” by watching him get away with it. These two fascist windsocks probably also still believe the lie that Gerald Ford had to pardon Richard Nixon to “heal” the nation.
How quaint. Fucking grow up.
The mainstream corporate media isn’t going to get better, pals. We yell at them all the time — and we should! — but we need to understand that as we enter this next phase of American history, we can’t count on them to be a check on power. Certainly, great reporters at big hallowed institutions will continue to do great work, and it will be vital, but as a whole? We’ll see.
They’re not learning lessons. Hell, just last night, I saw CNN’s Kaitlan Collins — who is good sometimes! — tweeting that Trump was about to put a 25 percent tariff on Mexico and Canada, in essence propping up Trump’s lie/delusion that tariffs are taxes on foreign countries what’s doin’ us dirty, as opposed to a tax on American consumers on all products or components of products made by our two largest trading partners.
You know, in case you were wondering if the mainstream media was going to do better by the voters who are still out there googling “What is a tariff?” since Trump’s been lying to them all these months.
This Thanksgiving I’m grateful that we have an independent media in America — reporters, analysts, pundits, historians, scholars, people who do all these things and even manage to make it funny — and I’m committed as ever to doing my little part to make sure that a year, five years, 10 years from now, we still have an independent media.
I’m taking this week off from Wonkette, and outside of this email/newsletter, I’m taking it off from The Moral High Ground. (Regularly scheduled things will be back next week, on their regular schedule!)
But I’m absolutely asking for all y’all’s support as we enter this holiday season, and for what comes after, to help make sure I can keep this joint alive and growing, adding my voice to the mix and speaking whatever truths I think need to be spoken and/or yelled much more loudly.
As I write this, there are over 7,400 total subscribers at this newsletter that’s not quite six months old, and that number is growing at a clip lately. Welcome to all those of you who are new readers, especially if this is the first newsletter you’ve gotten! Here is an overview of what this place is and what I’m trying to do with it.
If you haven’t yet, please upgrade your subscription to paying or founding, and join the growing number of folks who are financially supporting this little corner of the independent media internet. By the way, subscriptions are 20% off for Thanksgiving!
I appreciate every one of you so much, for reading and sharing and subscribing and all of it. We’re going to keep fighting back against these motherfuckers, and we’re gonna call them motherfuckers while we’re doing it.
Happy Thanksgiving, however you celebrate or don’t celebrate or whatever. Just eat some good food, OK?
Here are some new puppy pictures to cleanse your timeline.
The only way to handle this is a mass exodus from Amazon. He doesn't give two shits about WaPo. He's already cashed in $5 billion (back in July), because he saw this coming and took care of himself. But Americans need to decide whether they value convenience and cheap prices over things like democracy and freedom.
Say what you want about the Puritans, but they executed Charles I, the anointed King of England. They would have no trouble throwing trump's ass in the stocks for his crimes.
ETA: if kings aren't above the law (Chuck I isn't the only one to pay a price for being dick), why are presidents? As for Biden pardoning trump, why does he need to do so? Can't trump give himself a pardon after he's inaugurated? Good points, Evan, about "healing the nation," pardoning trump won't do that, any more than the Nixon pardon did. Also good points about the MSM, which I am still boycotting. Thanks for the pics of Ruby! I hope to become a paid subscriber after the first of the year, if the traitor's tax on Americans (his fucking tariffs) don't deplete the savings I will have by changing insurance companies.
